Edna Hibel’s First Children’s Book Due in December
For the first time, Edna Hibel is collaborating on an educational book for children
of all ages, a story of troubles and triumphs of youngsters William and Gertrude in an
idyllic European castle and countryside setting, caught up in the tumultuous Industrial
Revolution 200 years ago.
The colorful Hibel 9” x 6” front cover portrays the main characters and the castle,
and her 20 single-color images throughout the book enhance the tale of "The Black Block
Legend."
Creation of the book was a family project. The story’s author, Andy Plotkin, is
Edna Hibel's son and author of the book, “The Red Sox and the Devil’s Handmaiden.”
The poetry throughout is by Theodore Plotkin, Edna's husband. Cheryll Plotkin, Edna’s
daughter-in-law, was involved in editing the book. Publish America of Baltimore,
Maryland, is the book’s publisher.
The story in the book is unusually presented in two versions, one for younger
children (as well as for parents and teachers to read to children), and the other for older
children through high school age. The book is priced at $12.95, and will be sold in
bookstores and also online.
The world renowned Edna Hibel has won numerous artistic, civic, and
humanitarian awards throughout a career spanning more than 85 years. Among her
accolades are six honorary doctorates, a medal of honor from the late Pope John Paul II,
and the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts. Hibel is one of only a few people since
the late Renaissance to have created art in nine different decades.
