NLAPW Sponsors Edna Hibel Art Exhibit and Book Signing
Washington, DC… January 21, 2007 … The National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) sponsors Edna Hibel Art Exhibit and book signing held Sunday, April 15, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Pen Arts Building, 1300 17th Street, NW, Washington, DC. The Exhibit is also available for public view Monday April 16th. through Friday April 20th., from 11:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. For over 40 years, Hibel has been referred to as America's best loved and most versatile artist, and best colorist. Her work has been exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries in more than 20 countries on four continents including national museums in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Russia and the U.S.A., and under the royal patronage of Count and Countess Bernadotte of Germany, Count Thor Bonde of Sweden, Prince and the late Princess Rainier of Monaco and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England.
She has received medals of honor from His Eminence Pope John Paul II and the late Belgian King Baudouin, and has received six honorary Doctorate degrees including her most recent from Simmons College, Boston in May, 2005. In addition to her numerous artistic awards, Hibel received humanitarian honors for her more than one half century participation in raising donations with her work for children's and medical charities. She also used her humanistic and compassionate work to bring peace through cultural understanding between China and the United States, Yugoslavia and the United States and Russia and the United States with her "Golden Bridge" and "Peace Through Wisdom" exhibits in those countries. The television documentary "Hibel's Russian Palette" was developed during her trips and art shows in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. She was recognized for her effect on people and their love and understanding for each other long before her travels to communist countries with an honorary doctorate degree from the University for Peace in Costa Rica.
Hibel, a NLAPW member, is exhibiting her work form April 15 – 20, 2007 and will be on site on April 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a book signing. The National League of American Pen Women, founded in 1897, is a recipient of the Literary Hall of Fame Award in recognition of its contribution to the cultural life of the United States. Presently, the League’s mission is to promote the development of creative talents of professional women in the arts and consists of more than 200 local branches throughout the United States. In addition to local branches, the League also provides membership to members-at-large and affiliate (non-citizen) members and encourages the formation of State Associations. Present-day membership comprised of three comprehensive membership classifications: Letters, Art, and Music, offers association with other creative professional women through participation in workshops, discussion groups and lectures related to the creative process. Writing and poetry contests, art exhibitions (both juried and judged), and music composition competitions are conducted at local branch, state and national level of the organization.
